Domestic Violence in Utah
- There are 16 shelters in Utah that provide services to victims of domestic violence. From July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006 they provided shelter to 1,756 women, 1,722 children, and 35 men.
- Utah law indicates that an act of domestic violence in the presence of a child is child abuse. From July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006 the Division of Child and Family Services supported 2396 cases alleging domestic violence in the presence of a child. There were 4517 victims.
- In 2006, The Domestic Violence Crisis and Information Line ( 1-800-897-LINK) received 2526 calls seeking information about services for domestic violence.
- In 2006, Utah law enforcement reported there were 6272 domestic violence crimes committed against an intimate partner (spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, common-law spouse). There were 7382 injuries reported as a result of the domestic violence.
- In Utah , in 2006, there were 28 deaths due to domestic violence. There were 18 homicides and 10 suicides. These homicides account for 60% of homicides in Utah for 2006.
