Join Our Team
Ever thought about volunteering in your community, but just weren't sure where to start? Well, Safe Harbor Crisis Center relies heavily on volunteers throughout the community to keep it operating and we would love to have you. We are open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, which can get really costly to keep staffed. Therefore, our volunteers serve as an integral part of the shelter's day-to-day activities and functions.
Many people feel timid at first about volunteering at a domestic violence shelter. But at Safe Harbor , 50+ volunteers have been trained by staff members to meet the needs of residents. New volunteers “shadow” an experienced volunteer for twenty hours, and also receive the opportunity for in class training every month. You can click here to find out more about upcoming training classes.
We need volunteers to work in the shelter and on our crisis teams. Shelter Volunteers will work a 3 to 4 hour shift 7 am to 9 pm Monday – Friday, or 5pm -9 pm Saturday and Sunday. They are responsible for answering the crisis and business lines, attending to resident needs, screening visitors, assessing for shelter eligibility, and assisting staff.
Crisis Team volunteers work on-call for 1-2 weeks at a time from 9 pm to 7 am weekdays, and all day Saturday & Sunday. They do crisis intervention either in person or over the phone with victims of domestic violence or sexual assault who are currently dealing with the police right after a violent incident.
No matter what your interest, we are willing to work with you to accommodate your schedule. If you are interested in being a volunteer or getting more information, please call Jill Ramage. She can be reached at (801) 444-3191 or send an email to dccav@xmission.com (subject: Volunteering) for more information about becoming a volunteer at Safe Harbor Crisis Center !
